Crisis Care

988 is the official national suicide and crisis prevention line. If calling or texting 988, one should keep in mind that they are obligated to send emergency responders to your location (even if you do not give your location) if they believe you are at an imminent risk of harming yourself or others. It aims to minimize police involvement, connecting you with counselors and if necessary sending mental health experts to your location to provide you support and connect you with care; however, in at least 2% of calls police end up responding and non-consented hospitalization is a possibility.

The following are additional suicide and crisis support lines that do not cooperate with police and will not lead to a forced hospitalization.
